Plywood: choosing well

Interior or exterior?

BS EN 636 classes plywood as class 1 (dry), class 2 (humid) or class 3 (exterior). Use class 3 for anything exposed to the weather.

Thickness for floors

18 mm or more is common for floors on joists at 400 mm centres; follow your design.

Before your Richmond delivery arrives

Sheets travel flat on the lorry bed and are hand-offloaded or crane-lifted in packs. Richmond is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
• If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
• Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.

Is shuttering ply suitable for building?

It is made for concrete formwork, not for permanent structural decks. Use structural ply for roofs and floors.

What plywood should I use outside?

Use plywood with an exterior bond, class 3 under BS EN 636, or marine ply for very wet conditions.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Richmond?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

Can I add other materials to my Richmond delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from plywood to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
