How much will you need?

A 3.4 × 3.6 m room with one door has about 13.2 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 14.5 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Picking the right product

Softwood or MDF trim?

MDF skirting and architrave is very straight and paints well; softwood takes knocks better and can be stained.

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Planning the drop in Whitstable

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Whitstable is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• On busy streets in Whitstable, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
• Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
• Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
