Planed Timber & Mouldings: choosing well

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Matching old profiles

Bring an offcut or a clear profile photo with measurements and we will look for the closest current profile.

How much will you need?

A 3.4 × 3.2 m room with one door has about 12.4 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 13.6 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Delivering planed timber in Wellingborough

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Wellingborough is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
• If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
• Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.

Your questions answered

Can you match an old skirting profile?

We can look for the closest current profile. Exact matches for old or bespoke profiles may need machining to order.

Can you deliver planed timber to a site with restricted access in Wellingborough?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Do you deliver planed timber to trades and homeowners in Wellingborough?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

What does PAR mean?

Planed all round: the timber has been machined smooth on all four faces.
