Getting the right planed timber

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Matching old profiles

Bring an offcut or a clear profile photo with measurements and we will look for the closest current profile.

Planning the drop in Sudbury

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Sudbury is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
• Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
• For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.

Working out quantities for your Sudbury job

A 3.4 × 3.2 m room with one door has about 12.4 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 13.6 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Planed Timber & Mouldings questions

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Sudbury?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

Do you deliver planed timber to Sudbury?

Yes. We deliver across Sudbury, including CO10. Sudbury is inside our standard mainland delivery area. Send your list or call 0800 088 6341 and we will price it delivered to your postcode.

Do you sell MDF skirting?

Yes, primed MDF skirting and architrave in common profiles, alongside softwood.

How should I store planed timber?

Flat, off the ground and inside if possible, so it does not take on moisture and move before fitting.
