Getting planed timber onto your Stafford site

  • For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
  • In summer Stafford gets around 16h 54m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
  • Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.

Working out quantities for your Stafford job

A 3.4 × 4 m room with one door has about 14 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 15.4 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Picking the right product

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Matching old profiles

Bring an offcut or a clear profile photo with measurements and we will look for the closest current profile.

Planed Timber & Mouldings questions

Why is my 2 × 4 smaller than 2 × 4 inches?

Timber is often named by its sawn size before planing. Once planed, it finishes smaller, so a nominal 2 × 4 is roughly 44 × 94 mm or less.

Do you deliver planed timber to Stafford?

Yes. We deliver across Stafford, including ST16, ST18. Stafford is inside our standard mainland delivery area. Send your list or call 0800 088 6341 and we will price it delivered to your postcode.

Can you deliver planed timber to a site with restricted access in Stafford?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

How should I store planed timber?

Flat, off the ground and inside if possible, so it does not take on moisture and move before fitting.
