Before you order planed timber

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Softwood or MDF trim?

MDF skirting and architrave is very straight and paints well; softwood takes knocks better and can be stained.

Estimating your planed timber

A 4.2 × 4 m room with one door has about 15.6 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 17.2 m, or 5 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

How delivery works in Southport

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Southport is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
• On busy streets in Southport, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
• Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around PR8 are priced to the exact address.

Common questions from Southport

Can you match an old skirting profile?

We can look for the closest current profile. Exact matches for old or bespoke profiles may need machining to order.

Do you deliver planed timber to trades and homeowners in Southport?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Do you sell MDF skirting?

Yes, primed MDF skirting and architrave in common profiles, alongside softwood.

How soon can planed timber be delivered in Southport?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.
