Planed Timber & Mouldings: choosing well

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Matching old profiles

Bring an offcut or a clear profile photo with measurements and we will look for the closest current profile.

Before your Sandhurst delivery arrives

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Sandhurst is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• In summer Sandhurst gets around 16h 37m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
• On busy streets in Sandhurst, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
• Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.

How much will you need?

A 3.4 × 4.6 m room with one door has about 15.2 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 16.7 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Planed Timber & Mouldings questions

How should I store planed timber?

Flat, off the ground and inside if possible, so it does not take on moisture and move before fitting.

Yes, primed MDF skirting and architrave in common profiles, alongside softwood.

Can I add other materials to my Sandhurst delivery?
