A quick quantity check

A 3 × 3.6 m room with one door has about 12.4 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 13.6 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Things to check before you order

Softwood or MDF trim?

MDF skirting and architrave is very straight and paints well; softwood takes knocks better and can be stained.

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Getting planed timber onto your Kilmarnock site

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Kilmarnock is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
• Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
• In summer Kilmarnock gets around 17h 31m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.

Planed Timber & Mouldings questions

What does PAR mean?

Planed all round: the timber has been machined smooth on all four faces.

Can you deliver planed timber to a site with restricted access in Kilmarnock?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Can you match an old skirting profile?

We can look for the closest current profile. Exact matches for old or bespoke profiles may need machining to order.

Can I add other materials to my Kilmarnock delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from planed timber to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
