Getting the right planed timber

Softwood or MDF trim?

MDF skirting and architrave is very straight and paints well; softwood takes knocks better and can be stained.

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Sizing your order

A 3.4 × 3.6 m room with one door has about 13.2 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 14.5 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Delivery to Folkestone: what helps

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Folkestone is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
• Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.

Planed Timber & Mouldings in Folkestone: questions

What does PAR mean?

Planed all round: the timber has been machined smooth on all four faces.

Do you deliver planed timber to trades and homeowners in Folkestone?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Folkestone?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

Do you sell MDF skirting?

Yes, primed MDF skirting and architrave in common profiles, alongside softwood.
