Choosing planed timber

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Matching old profiles

Bring an offcut or a clear profile photo with measurements and we will look for the closest current profile.

Planning the drop in Broadstairs

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Broadstairs is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
• In summer Broadstairs gets around 16h 37m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.

Working out quantities for your Broadstairs job

A 3.4 × 4.6 m room with one door has about 15.2 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 16.7 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Flat, off the ground and inside if possible, so it does not take on moisture and move before fitting.

What does PAR mean?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
