Picking the right product

Sealing joints

Tape the joints with foil tape so the foil layer works as a continuous vapour control layer where the design relies on it.

Thickness for the U-value

The thickness you need depends on the U-value the building regulations require and the rest of the build-up. Manufacturers publish U-value tables; your designer or building control will confirm.

In Northern Ireland building work follows the Building Regulations (Northern Ireland), with guidance in the Technical Booklets, and applications go to the council's building control team.

Getting PIR insulation boards onto your Coleraine site

Boards are light but bulky; they travel in wrapped packs and should be stored flat and dry. Deliveries to Northern Ireland include a sea crossing, so we quote each order individually.

• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
• With roughly 7h 08m of daylight in Coleraine around the shortest day, morning deliveries leave more working light for the job.
• In summer Coleraine gets around 17h 24m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.

Your questions answered

Can PIR be used in external walls?

In some situations, but building regulations restrict combustible insulation in external walls of certain buildings. Check the rules for your building.

What is the foil for?

The foil facing reflects heat, protects the foam and, when joints are taped, can act as a vapour control layer.

How soon can PIR insulation boards be delivered in Coleraine?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.

Can I add other materials to my Coleraine delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from PIR insulation boards to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
