Getting the right OSB, MDF and chipboard

Cutting MDF safely

MDF dust is fine; cut with extraction and wear suitable respiratory protection.

OSB or plywood?

OSB3 is usually cheaper and fine for most structural decking in humid conditions. Plywood is stiffer, takes fixings near edges better and performs better where it may get wet.

Before your Blackheath delivery arrives

Sheets come in packs on the lorry bed, crane-lifted or hand-offloaded. Blackheath is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
• Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
• In summer Blackheath gets around 16h 38m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
