Steel & Concrete Lintels delivered to Gateshead

A lintel is a beam that carries the masonry over a door or window opening; most UK houses use galvanised steel cavity lintels or prestressed concrete lintels.

Trades and homeowners in Gateshead can order lintels for delivery by sending a list, a drawing or just the sizes of the job.

What lintels can we deliver to Gateshead?

  • Prestressed concrete lintelsPlain concrete lintels for inner leaves and internal openings.
  • Cavity trays and stop endsTo shed water out of the cavity over openings.
  • Heavy-duty and extra-heavy lintelsFor openings carrying floors or a lot of masonry.
  • Single-leaf and box lintelsFor solid walls, timber frame and internal walls.
  • Steel cavity wall lintelsInsulated galvanised lintels that support both leaves of a cavity wall.

Before you order lintels

Do I need a cavity tray?

Over openings in cavity walls, water in the cavity has to be directed outwards. Many steel lintels need a separate cavity tray and stop ends; check the lintel maker's detail.

Which lintel for my opening?

Measure the clear opening, add the end bearing each side, and note the wall type (cavity width, inner and outer leaf) and what sits above. Manufacturers publish load tables; for anything carrying a floor, roof or point load get an engineer or building control to confirm.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Quantities: a worked example

For a 1,500 mm clear opening, add at least 150 mm of bearing at each end: the lintel needs to be at least 1,800 mm long. Then pick the type for the wall build-up and check the load in the manufacturer's table, or ask your engineer if the opening carries a floor or roof.

Before your Gateshead delivery arrives

Lintels are long, so tell us about tight access. Shorter lintels can travel with a mixed load; long steel lintels are handled by hand or crane. Gateshead is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
  • On busy streets in Gateshead, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
  • Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.

Your questions answered

How soon can lintels be delivered in Gateshead?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.

Do I need building control approval for a new lintel?

Making or widening an opening in a loadbearing wall is structural work, so in most cases yes. Building control or an engineer will confirm the lintel.

Do you deliver lintels to Gateshead?

Yes. We deliver across Gateshead, including NE8, NE9, NE10, NE11. Gateshead is inside our standard mainland delivery area. Send your list or call 0800 088 6341 and we will price it delivered to your postcode.

Can you tell me which lintel to use?

We can suggest options from the manufacturers' load tables based on the opening, wall type and load you describe, but for anything structural the final choice should come from your designer or engineer, and be approved through building control.
