Steel & Concrete Lintels delivered to Bradford

A lintel is a beam that carries the masonry over a door or window opening; most UK houses use galvanised steel cavity lintels or prestressed concrete lintels.

Whether it is a repair, an extension or a new build in Bradford, we can supply the lintels and deliver to site.

Delivering lintels in Bradford

Lintels are long, so tell us about tight access. Shorter lintels can travel with a mixed load; long steel lintels are handled by hand or crane. Bradford is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
  • Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
  • Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.

How much will you need?

For a 900 mm clear opening, add at least 150 mm of bearing at each end: the lintel needs to be at least 1,200 mm long. Then pick the type for the wall build-up and check the load in the manufacturer's table, or ask your engineer if the opening carries a floor or roof.

Getting the right lintels

Steel or concrete?

Steel cavity lintels support both leaves and include insulation to limit cold bridging. Concrete lintels are simple and robust for single leaves and internal walls.

Which lintel for my opening?

Measure the clear opening, add the end bearing each side, and note the wall type (cavity width, inner and outer leaf) and what sits above. Manufacturers publish load tables; for anything carrying a floor, roof or point load get an engineer or building control to confirm.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Steel & Concrete Lintels in Bradford: questions

Do you deliver lintels to Bradford?

Yes. We deliver across Bradford, including BD1, BD2, BD3, BD5. Bradford is inside our standard mainland delivery area. Send your list or call 0800 088 6341 and we will price it delivered to your postcode.

Do I need building control approval for a new lintel?

Making or widening an opening in a loadbearing wall is structural work, so in most cases yes. Building control or an engineer will confirm the lintel.

Can you tell me which lintel to use?

We can suggest options from the manufacturers' load tables based on the opening, wall type and load you describe, but for anything structural the final choice should come from your designer or engineer, and be approved through building control.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Bradford?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
