Damp Proofing & Membranes: choosing well

DPC width

Match the DPC width to the wall leaf so it runs the full width of the masonry.

Is radon protection needed?

Parts of the UK need radon protection in new buildings and extensions. UKHSA radon maps show the areas; building control will tell you what applies.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Delivery to Salisbury: what helps

Rolls are light enough to travel with a mixed load and are handed off at the kerb. Salisbury is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
  • Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
  • On busy streets in Salisbury, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.

Quantities: a worked example

An extension in Salisbury with 12 m of cavity wall needs DPC in both leaves: about 1 roll in 30 m lengths once laps are allowed for. A 30 m² floor slab needs about 34.5 m² of DPM including laps, which is 1 roll of 4 × 25 m sheeting.

Ordering damp proofing for Salisbury: FAQs

How thick should a DPM be?

1200-gauge polythene, around 300 microns, is a common specification for floor slabs. Your design may call for something different.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Salisbury?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

What is the difference between DPC and DPM?

DPC is a strip built into walls to stop damp rising through the masonry. DPM is a sheet laid under a concrete floor slab. They are lapped together so there is no gap.

Can you deliver damp proofing to a site with restricted access in Salisbury?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
