Choosing damp proofing
DPC width
Match the DPC width to the wall leaf so it runs the full width of the masonry.
Is radon protection needed?
Parts of the UK need radon protection in new buildings and extensions. UKHSA radon maps show the areas; building control will tell you what applies.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Working out quantities for your Fleet job
An extension in Fleet with 32 m of cavity wall needs DPC in both leaves: about 3 rolls in 30 m lengths once laps are allowed for. A 50 m² floor slab needs about 57.5 m² of DPM including laps, which is 1 roll of 4 × 25 m sheeting.
Planning the drop in Fleet
Rolls are light enough to travel with a mixed load and are handed off at the kerb. Fleet is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
- Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
- Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
Damp Proofing & Membranes in Fleet: questions
What is the difference between DPC and DPM?
DPC is a strip built into walls to stop damp rising through the masonry. DPM is a sheet laid under a concrete floor slab. They are lapped together so there is no gap.
Can you deliver damp proofing to a site with restricted access in Fleet?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
Do I need a radon barrier?
It depends on where you are. In radon-affected areas building control requires radon protection in new buildings and extensions.
Do you deliver damp proofing to trades and homeowners in Fleet?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
