Before you order bagged concrete and mortar

Bagged or site-mixed?

Bagged mixes cost more per cubic metre but save time, waste and space. For anything bigger than a small pad, site-mixed or ready-mixed concrete is usually better value.

Post mix quantities

Most makers say how many bags per post; it depends on the hole size.

Sizing your order

Setting 10 fence posts in Forres usually takes 10 to 20 bags of 20 kg post mix, depending on the hole size printed on the bag. For a base bigger than about half a cubic metre, all-in ballast and cement are usually better value. Compare with site-mixed concrete

Delivery to Forres: what helps

Bags come on a pallet or with a mixed load. Forres is in an area where deliveries are priced individually because of the distance and access, so we quote each order separately.

• Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
• Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
