Choosing bagged concrete and mortar

Post mix quantities

Most makers say how many bags per post; it depends on the hole size.

Bagged or site-mixed?

Bagged mixes cost more per cubic metre but save time, waste and space. For anything bigger than a small pad, site-mixed or ready-mixed concrete is usually better value.

Before your Bishop Auckland delivery arrives

Bags come on a pallet or with a mixed load. Bishop Auckland is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
  • Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around DL14 are priced to the exact address.
  • Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.

Quantities: a worked example

Setting 20 fence posts in Bishop Auckland usually takes 20 to 40 bags of 20 kg post mix, depending on the hole size printed on the bag. For a base bigger than about half a cubic metre, all-in ballast and cement are usually better value. Compare with site-mixed concrete

Bagged Concrete & Mortar Mixes in Bishop Auckland: questions

How many bags of post mix per post?

Usually one or two 20 kg bags per standard fence post, depending on the hole size. The bag will state the recommended amount.

Do you deliver bagged concrete and mortar to trades and homeowners in Bishop Auckland?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Bishop Auckland?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

When should I use ready-mixed concrete instead?

Once you need more than about half a cubic metre, mixing from bags gets slow and costly; ballast and cement or ready-mixed concrete usually make more sense.
