Concrete & Aircrete Blocks for Edinburgh, delivered to site
Concrete blocks are large masonry units, normally 440 × 215 mm on face, that lay at about 10 blocks per square metre; they come as dense aggregate, lightweight aggregate or aircrete (aerated) blocks.
Trades and homeowners in Edinburgh can order concrete blocks for delivery by sending a list, a drawing or just the sizes of the job.

- Dense concrete blocksHeavy, strong blocks for loadbearing walls, below ground and good sound separation.
- Aircrete (aerated) blocksVery light, easy to cut and good insulators; check the strength grade for loadbearing work.
- Hollow and cellular blocksLighter dense blocks with voids, used for some garden and retaining walls.
- Trench and foundation blocksWide blocks laid in foundation trenches instead of lots of concrete.
- Block paving and edgingsOn request alongside your sub-base and sand.
Concrete & Aircrete Blocks: choosing well
What strength do I need?
Most houses use 3.6 N/mm² or 7.3 N/mm² blocks. Your structural design, your building standards surveyor or the block manufacturer's guidance sets the grade; tell us what is specified and we will match it.
Handling heavy blocks
Health and safety guidance discourages laying very heavy blocks by hand for long periods. Lighter blocks or planning the lift can make a big difference on site.
In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.
Delivery to Edinburgh: what helps
Blocks are banded on pallets and usually crane-offloaded where the vehicle and access allow; tell us the weight limit of any drive or the ground where pallets will sit. Edinburgh is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- In summer Edinburgh gets around 17h 36m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
- Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
- For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
Sizing your order
A single-skin block wall in Edinburgh 7 m long and 2.4 m high is 16.8 m². At 10 blocks per square metre plus 5% you need 177 blocks, with about 0.24 tonnes of building sand and 3 bags of cement for the mortar at 1:4. Try the block calculator
Questions about concrete blocks delivery in Edinburgh
Do you deliver concrete blocks to trades and homeowners in Edinburgh?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
How many blocks per square metre?
Standard 440 × 215 mm blocks with 10 mm joints lay at about 10 blocks per square metre of wall. Add around 5 percent for cuts.
Can you deliver concrete blocks to a site with restricted access in Edinburgh?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
Are aircrete blocks strong enough for an extension?
Many aircrete blocks are designed for loadbearing walls, but grades differ. Check the strength your design calls for and the manufacturer's guidance on use below DPC.
