Choosing concrete blocks
Handling heavy blocks
Health and safety guidance discourages laying very heavy blocks by hand for long periods. Lighter blocks or planning the lift can make a big difference on site.
Thickness
100 mm is the common inner-leaf thickness. Wider blocks (140, 190, 215 mm) are used for separating walls, single-skin garage walls and foundations.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Planning the drop in Aldridge
Blocks are banded on pallets and usually crane-offloaded where the vehicle and access allow; tell us the weight limit of any drive or the ground where pallets will sit. Aldridge is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
- In summer Aldridge gets around 16h 51m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
- If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
