Getting the right cement
How much cement do I need?
Work from the mix: a 1:4 mortar or a 1:5 concrete mix tells you the share of cement. Our calculators turn wall or slab sizes into bags.
Working in cold weather
Mortar and concrete should not be laid when temperatures are near freezing. Protect fresh work from frost.
Estimating your cement
Laying 500 bricks at a 1:4 mix takes about 5 bags of 25 kg cement and 0.47 tonnes of building sand. Try the mortar calculator
Before your Plymouth delivery arrives
Bags come on a shrink-wrapped pallet or as part of a mixed load; keep them covered once dropped. Plymouth is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- In summer Plymouth gets around 16h 26m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
- If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
- Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
