Choosing carcassing timber

Cut ends

Treat any cut ends with a suitable end-grain preservative, especially on external work.

C16 or C24?

C24 is stronger and stiffer, so it can span further or use a smaller section. Span tables and your structural drawings decide which grade and size you need.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Delivering carcassing timber in Margate

Timber is delivered in packs or bundles on a flatbed; long lengths need clear access along the drop point. Margate is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
  • Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
  • If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
