Sizing your order

A floor 4.8 m wide with joists spanning 4.2 m at 400 mm centres needs 13 joists, plus trimmers and noggins. The section and grade, such as 47 × 200 mm C24, come from span tables or your engineer; send us the timber schedule and we will price it.

Getting carcassing timber onto your Lancashire site

Timber is delivered in packs or bundles on a flatbed; long lengths need clear access along the drop point. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Lancashire.

  • If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
  • On busy streets in Lancashire, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
  • Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.

Picking the right product

Cut ends

Treat any cut ends with a suitable end-grain preservative, especially on external work.

C16 or C24?

C24 is stronger and stiffer, so it can span further or use a smaller section. Span tables and your structural drawings decide which grade and size you need.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Common questions from Lancashire

Is your carcassing timber treated?

We supply treated carcassing as standard for structural work. Tell us if the timber is for external or ground-contact use so we supply the right treatment level.

Why is my treated timber green or brown?

The colour comes from the preservative. It fades over time and does not tell you how well the timber is protected; the use class does.

Can I add other materials to my Lancashire delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from carcassing timber to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Lancashire?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
