Our carcassing timber range for Hartlepool jobs

  • C16 graded carcassingThe everyday structural grade for joists, rafters and studs.
  • Wall plate and nogginsSmaller sections for plates, noggins and bracing.
  • C24 graded carcassingStronger grade for longer spans or smaller sections.
  • Longer lengthsLengths beyond the common range to order.

Things to check before you order

C16 or C24?

C24 is stronger and stiffer, so it can span further or use a smaller section. Span tables and your structural drawings decide which grade and size you need.

Cut ends

Treat any cut ends with a suitable end-grain preservative, especially on external work.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Getting carcassing timber onto your Hartlepool site

Timber is delivered in packs or bundles on a flatbed; long lengths need clear access along the drop point. Hartlepool is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
  • In summer Hartlepool gets around 17h 18m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
  • Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.

Quantities: a worked example

A floor 3 m wide with joists spanning 3.6 m at 400 mm centres needs 9 joists, plus trimmers and noggins. The section and grade, such as 47 × 200 mm C24, come from span tables or your engineer; send us the timber schedule and we will price it.

Treated Carcassing Timber questions

Can you deliver carcassing timber to a site with restricted access in Hartlepool?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Hartlepool?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

Why is my treated timber green or brown?

The colour comes from the preservative. It fades over time and does not tell you how well the timber is protected; the use class does.

What sizes of joist do I need?

That depends on the span, spacing, loading and grade. Use span tables or your engineer's design; building control will check.
