Which carcassing timber can you order in East Grinstead?
- Fencing and sleeper timberTreated posts, rails and sleepers on request.
- Longer lengthsLengths beyond the common range to order.
- C24 graded carcassingStronger grade for longer spans or smaller sections.
- Treated timberPressure treated for protection against rot and insect attack.
- C16 graded carcassingThe everyday structural grade for joists, rafters and studs.
How much will you need?
A floor 4.2 m wide with joists spanning 3 m at 400 mm centres needs 12 joists, plus trimmers and noggins. The section and grade, such as 47 × 200 mm C24, come from span tables or your engineer; send us the timber schedule and we will price it.
Choosing carcassing timber
C16 or C24?
C24 is stronger and stiffer, so it can span further or use a smaller section. Span tables and your structural drawings decide which grade and size you need.
Cut ends
Treat any cut ends with a suitable end-grain preservative, especially on external work.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Before your East Grinstead delivery arrives
Timber is delivered in packs or bundles on a flatbed; long lengths need clear access along the drop point. East Grinstead is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
- Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
- Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
Treated Carcassing Timber questions
Do you deliver carcassing timber to trades and homeowners in East Grinstead?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
Can I add other materials to my East Grinstead delivery?
Yes. Put everything on one list, from carcassing timber to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
What does C16 and C24 mean?
They are strength classes under BS EN 338. C24 timber is stronger and stiffer than C16, which lets it span further for the same size.
Why is my treated timber green or brown?
The colour comes from the preservative. It fades over time and does not tell you how well the timber is protected; the use class does.
