Treated Carcassing Timber delivery in Canary Wharf

Carcassing timber is strength-graded, sawn softwood used for the structural frame of a building, such as floor joists, rafters, ceiling joists and stud walls.

SK Trade prices carcassing timber delivered to Canary Wharf and the rest of Greater London, so the cost and the delivery date are agreed before anything is loaded.

Which carcassing timber can you order in Canary Wharf?

  • Wall plate and nogginsSmaller sections for plates, noggins and bracing.
  • C24 graded carcassingStronger grade for longer spans or smaller sections.
  • Fencing and sleeper timberTreated posts, rails and sleepers on request.
  • C16 graded carcassingThe everyday structural grade for joists, rafters and studs.

How much will you need?

A floor 4.2 m wide with joists spanning 4.2 m at 400 mm centres needs 12 joists, plus trimmers and noggins. The section and grade, such as 47 × 200 mm C24, come from span tables or your engineer; send us the timber schedule and we will price it.

Getting carcassing timber onto your Canary Wharf site

Timber is delivered in packs or bundles on a flatbed; long lengths need clear access along the drop point. Canary Wharf is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
  • Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
  • If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.

Treated Carcassing Timber: choosing well

Cut ends

Treat any cut ends with a suitable end-grain preservative, especially on external work.

C16 or C24?

C24 is stronger and stiffer, so it can span further or use a smaller section. Span tables and your structural drawings decide which grade and size you need.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Common questions from Canary Wharf

What does C16 and C24 mean?

They are strength classes under BS EN 338. C24 timber is stronger and stiffer than C16, which lets it span further for the same size.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Canary Wharf?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

Can I add other materials to my Canary Wharf delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from carcassing timber to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

What sizes of joist do I need?

That depends on the span, spacing, loading and grade. Use span tables or your engineer's design; building control will check.
