How delivery works in Stranraer

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Stranraer is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
  • If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
  • If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.

Things to check before you order

Matching an existing house

Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.

Is the wall exposed?

For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).

In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.

Quantities: a worked example

Take a garden wall in Stranraer 5 m long and 0.9 m high: 4.5 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 284 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.27 tonnes of building sand and 3 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Ordering bricks for Stranraer: FAQs

Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?

Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.

Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Stranraer?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Do you sell bricks in small quantities?

We price whole packs as standard because that is how bricks leave the works. For small repairs ask anyway: we will tell you honestly whether part packs are possible for the brick you need.

Can you deliver bricks to a site with restricted access in Stranraer?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
