Delivery to Rochester: what helps
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Rochester is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
- For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
- Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
Before you order bricks
Is the wall exposed?
For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).
Matching an existing house
Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Quantities: a worked example
Take a garden wall in Rochester 4 m long and 1.8 m high: 7.2 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 454 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.43 tonnes of building sand and 4 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator
Common questions from Rochester
Do you sell bricks in small quantities?
We price whole packs as standard because that is how bricks leave the works. For small repairs ask anyway: we will tell you honestly whether part packs are possible for the brick you need.
Can I add other materials to my Rochester delivery?
Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
How soon can bricks be delivered in Rochester?
We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.
Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?
Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.
