Getting bricks onto your Leighton Buzzard site

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Leighton Buzzard is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
• Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
• With roughly 7h 45m of daylight in Leighton Buzzard around the shortest day, morning deliveries leave more working light for the job.

Choosing bricks

Colour consistency

Order everything for one job at the same time so the bricks come from the same production run, then mix from three or four packs as you lay to blend any variation.

Matching an existing house

Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

How much will you need?

Take a garden wall in Leighton Buzzard 6 m long and 1.5 m high: 9 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 567 bricks, roughly 2 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.53 tonnes of building sand and 5 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Your questions answered

How many bricks are in a square metre?

With standard 215 × 65 mm bricks and 10 mm mortar joints you need about 60 bricks per square metre for a single-skin (half-brick) wall and about 120 for a one-brick-thick wall. Add around 5 percent for cuts and breakages.

Can I add other materials to my Leighton Buzzard delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

Can you deliver bricks to a site with restricted access in Leighton Buzzard?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?

Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.
