Delivering bricks in Dartford

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Dartford is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
  • For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
  • Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.

Sizing your order

Take a garden wall in Dartford 9 m long and 1.5 m high: 13.5 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 851 bricks, roughly 2 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.8 tonnes of building sand and 8 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Choosing bricks

Matching an existing house

Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.

Is the wall exposed?

For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Your questions answered

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Dartford?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Dartford?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?

Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.

How much mortar do 1,000 bricks need?

Roughly half a cubic metre of mixed mortar, which is about 1 tonne of building sand and 8 to 9 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Our brick calculator works it out for your wall.
