Getting bricks onto your Bridgwater site
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Bridgwater is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
- For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
- Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
How much will you need?
Take a garden wall in Bridgwater 12 m long and 2.1 m high: 25.2 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 1,588 bricks, roughly 4 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 1.49 tonnes of building sand and 14 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator
Choosing bricks
Engineering Class A or B?
Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.
Matching an existing house
Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Bricks questions
How many bricks are in a square metre?
With standard 215 × 65 mm bricks and 10 mm mortar joints you need about 60 bricks per square metre for a single-skin (half-brick) wall and about 120 for a one-brick-thick wall. Add around 5 percent for cuts and breakages.
Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Bridgwater?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
Can I add other materials to my Bridgwater delivery?
Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
Do you sell bricks in small quantities?
We price whole packs as standard because that is how bricks leave the works. For small repairs ask anyway: we will tell you honestly whether part packs are possible for the brick you need.
