Getting ballast and gravel onto your Bristol site
Bulk bags are usually lifted off by crane where access allows; tell us where they can sit and whether the ground is firm. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Bristol.
- Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
- If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
- Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
Picking the right product
Ballast or separate sand and gravel?
All-in ballast is convenient for general concrete. For more control over the mix, use separate sharp sand and gravel.
Gravel size
20 mm gravel suits concrete and drainage layers; 10 mm and pea gravel suit bedding pipes and paths.
Your questions answered
What gravel do I bed drainage pipes in?
Pea gravel or a similar clean single-size gravel is commonly used around underground pipes.
Can you deliver ballast and gravel to a site with restricted access in Bristol?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
How much gravel do I need for a path?
Multiply the area by the depth (often 40 to 50 mm for decorative gravel) to get cubic metres, then allow about 1.5 tonnes per cubic metre.
